Women and LGBTQ+ Rights Where We Fly, Around the World
November 6, 2023 — AFA International Vice President Keturah Johnson was invited by the Biden Administration to attend the the 20th African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) Forum.
On her trip to Johannesburg, Keturah highlighted LGBTQ+ and women worker rights with labor allies including the United Steelworkers (USW) and others as part of a delegation led by United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai. The session titled “Enhancing Women Workers’ Voices to
Promote Rights at Work and Inclusive Development; Lessons from Programs for Workers affected by Changes in Trade Conditions" addressed recent anti-LGBTQ+ laws passed in Uganda and other countries considering anti-LGBTQ+ laws. This session also examined the critical need to amplify the voices of women to advance workers’ rights and to promote inclusive socio-economic development.
