May 4, 2019 at 8:30am ET — Last night, a Miami Air International plane was carrying 136 passengers and seven crew from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, when it attempted to land at Naval Air Station Jacksonville around 9:40 p.m. The Boeing 737 slid off a runway and came to a stop in the shallow waters of the nearby St. Johns River.
AFA members and aviation’s first responders safely evacuated the plane. Passengers praised their efforts. We are all proud of their actions.
AFA EAP and Safety are providing support to the crew and will continue to follow up through the accident investigation. If anyone is in need of AFA EAP assistance please call 800-424-2406.
