Flight Attendant Union Statement on Nomination of Deirdre Hamilton to the NMB
WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 20, 2021) — The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) International President released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Deirdre Hamilton to serve on the National Mediation Board:
“Today, President Biden continues his commitment to put workers first with his nomination of Deirdre Hamilton to serve as a Member on the National Mediation Board (NMB). The rail and aviation industries are highly unionized and drivers of good jobs. The Railway Labor Act (RLA) was the first federal law guaranteeing the right of workers to organize, join unions, and elect representatives without management coercion or interference.
"With over 20 years of experience, Deirdre Hamilton has represented workers across transportation, including Flight Attendants at AFA, before federal courts and with the NMB on legal issues, including union elections, mediation, contract enforcement, and major and minor dispute claims. Deirdre has amassed an in-depth knowledge of the Railway Labor Act (RLA), how it functions, and she is an excellent choice to enforce the full spirit of this law as a member of the Board.
"The aviation and rail industries support good union jobs that are critical to our economy and even more important as we recover from COVID-19 in the coming months and years.
