AFA-CWA Demands Reinstatement of SkyWest Flight Attendant Organizers

Washington, D.C. (September 21, 2023) — After SkyWest Airlines fired two flight attendant union organizers, the Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) sent a demand letter to the regional airline operating flights for Delta, Alaska, United, and American. The letter calls on the airline to immediately rehire the flight attendants and follow the Railway Labor Act worker organizing protections.

“SkyWest management must immediately reinstate illegally-terminated Flight Attendants Shane Price and Tresa Grange and cease any further retaliation against Union activists,” said AFA in a letter to SkyWest management. “Both engaged in protected concerted activity in addressing issues with their company-sponsored representative, the SkyWest Inflight Association (SIA). Both were directly fired for it by SkyWest management in violation of the Railway Labor Act.”

Throughout the airline industry, SkyWest Airlines management is known for its anti-union culture, which includes illegal “in-house” company unions, such as the SkyWest Inflight Association (SIA), that management uses to fend off union organizing at the carrier.

“If we do not hear from you by Friday, AFA will seek all legal remedies on [the Flight Attendants] behalf and, in doing so, will demonstrate to all the SkyWest Flight Attendants what we all know about the relationship between SIA and SkyWest management: they are one and the same,” the letter concludes.

The union has also launched an online public petition.
