TSO Representation Election Kicks Off With Support From Flight Attendant Union

Washington, DC – The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA (AFA) International President Veda Shook today issued the following statement of support for the nation’s Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) in their campaign to win union representation with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE):

“The training and expertise of Transportation Security Officers across the country play a vital role in aviation security. As safety professionals, Flight Attendants count on TSOs every day to ensure a secure work environment and safe travels for passengers. Flight Attendants need TSOs to have a union!

“AFA understands that strong union representation for aviation employees is key to aviation safety and security which is why we support AFGE as the collective bargaining agent for TSOs. All too often the union is the only voice focused on security while management cannot see past financial considerations.

“In our role as first responders, TSOs are with us on the front lines of maintaining aviation security. We support their right for union representation and support AFGE which has been the voice for Transportation Security Administration employees since the agency’s inception in 2001.”

For over 60 years, the Association of Flight Attendants has been serving as the voice for Flight Attendants in the workplace, in the aviation industry, in the media and on Capitol Hill. Nearly 50,000 Flight Attendants at 21 airlines come together to form AFA, the world’s largest Flight Attendant union. AFA is part of the 700,000-member strong Communications Workers of America (CWA), AFL-CIO. Visit us at www.afacwa.org.
